HEALTH AND NEW TECHNOLOGIES: science and innovation in times of COVID-19

New technologies are increasingly permeating the areas of health care, and the benefits of digitizing health information, "mobile health" and medical robotics are just a few examples of technological innovation applied to the health sector.

New medicines, technical equipment and procedures, organizational, educational, information and support systems, and care programs and protocols, through which health care and care are provided to the population, are to ensure efficiency and better cost-effectiveness. But it should be noted that at present this applies only to certain areas of the planet.

The technology applied to medicine has revolutionized the processes of diagnosis and the treatment of diseases. The goal is to improve and prolong the life of patients, in addition to facilitating the work of health professionals. Faced with the COVID-19 pandemic, predicted in December 2019, through artificial intelligence, by Canadian startup BlueDot, the technology sector has offered solutions to combat the outbreak of the new coronavirus, especially in the intelligence segments artificial and data science.

This also raises new ethical and legal questions: from the acquisition and use of "Big Data" to the responsibility for errors in algorithms and software, from checking the correction of medical information online to the right of access to health data.

The Magazine Humanities & Technology intends with the Dossier to deal with the study of these issues in a multidisciplinary perspective, with particular focus on, but not limited to, constantly evolving disciplines, such as Law, Legal Informatics and Medical Informatics, such as Bioethics and Applied Ethics.
