The persistent silence of cosmic immensity despite our efforts to communicate with possible extraterrestrial intelligences has reaffirmed an intriguing paradox in face of the logically estimated chances of intelligent life outside Earth. However, this paradox may not be exactly a contradiction, but an appearance arising from the reality of our universe. Bearing in mind that skepticism is a fundamental element of the scientific purpose, this paper describes the system of reasons why extraterrestrial contacts are very unlikely, even though intelligent life may be a relatively common fact everywhere.
